2008 Volunteer Awards
Volunteer Award Winners for 2008
"Volunteer of the Year” - Adele Haley
This award is given to an individual who has devoted countless hours towards helping the festival in any way possible. This individual loves the Festival so much that SHE is everywhere. She spent 4 hours in the office in the two weeks beforethe Festival, 11 hours in the booth, works the Auction, the Top 30 Reception, assists with the Royalty Advising at her school, works the Youth Parade, and is in charge of Prime Parade Seating for the Grand Parade. She began her career with the Festival in 1974 when she was Princess.
“Board Member of the Year” - Kelly Atwood
Being a Board Member takes a lot of time & energy. This award goes to the Board Member who has demonstrated enthusiasm, leadership skills, & dedication, which led to this year’s success. This particular Board member demonstrated all of these attributes and much more. She deals directly with vendors, whether they be happy or grumpy, as the chair for Arts & Crafts. She is always on the lookout year-round for new vendors as she attends Arts & Crafts Fairs across the state and spends countless hours planning and organizing the over 105 vendors that attend our event. Her passion and creativity make her a wonderful addition to our board and we are so lucky to have her expertise.
“Exceptional Service Award” - Ray Caveness
Each year, the festival deals with the enormous task of marking out Memorial Park for the Arts & Crafts vendors in the few days before they arrive. Once they arrive, the physical checking in and parking/loading/un-loading of each vendor begins. A few years ago, this person saw our current system at that time and said…”You need help”! He created a template by which each vendor spot is marked on the grass and single-handedly organizes the vendors as they setup and tear down for our Fair. He is selfless, compassionate, and dedicated to our Festival – we TRULY couldn’t do this without him.
“Director General Award” - Serve Wenatchee Valley
This award is given to the person or group that goes beyond the call of duty to support the Director General and this year's festival. This year’s recipient has done an amazing job at bringing a sense of family and safety to our Festival over the past years. This group provides the Safe Zones on the avenue during the big weekend. These Zones are designated safe refuge areas for teens. Additionally, their members and volunteers walk downtown during the big weekend as a way to prevent violence and crime. Entertainment in the Park is blessed with Inspiration Day each year, which wouldn’t be possible without all of the hard work of “Pastor Bob”. Our valley and our Festival are so very fortunate to have Pastor Bob Shepard and Serve Wenatchee Valley as they provide a helping hand to those in need.
